Roxy goes for a walk by the Whistler Golf Course

I met Roxy and her owner at the Canadian National BBQ Championships at Dusty’s in Creekside on Saturday. I was being my usual dog-loving self, as she was sitting at a table with a friend of mine.

After a brief conversation and introduction, she asked if I would be willing to dog sit Roxy for the day, while she drove down to the US for some shopping. She wanted to get away for the day, without worrying about leaving her dog in the car in the August heat.

What a fortuitous meeting!

Roxy and I spent the day together – she got five walks(!), and I had some company on the errands I was running. We ran around in a grassy field and she had a blast. Her owner got to head out for the day, knowing Roxy was going to have a company all day, rather than a long car ride.

I call that a win-win situation!

I am one of those dog-lovers that stops at every cute puppy, and pets the dog patiently waiting for its owner outside of the store, but doesn’t have her own dog.

I am also a problem-solver. And an opportunity-creator.

This idea is one of a mutually-beneficial pet-care arrangement, where I get to meet, love and care for different dogs at different times. I get to meet and be of service to others in my community, all the while taking advantage of my flexible lifestyle and job. I get some extra money from time to time, and YOU… well, you get the reassurance of knowing your pet is being cared for. One-on-one. In your own home. And your home is being cared for as well.
